Gary Lewis has been the Headteacher at Kings Langley Secondary School in Hertfordshire since 2002. At that time, the school was clearly failing and was categorised as being in the bottom 2% of all comprehensive schools nationally. Gary decided to develop a long term strategy for the school’s recovery that was entirely focused on developing “strong character” in both students and teaching staff. Recently, Ofsted stated that the “outstanding” attitudes and behaviour of the students” was attributable to the school’s complete immersion in reinforcing character, resilience and moral virtue in all aspects of the school’s work and curriculum. Gary is a passionate advocate of the development of the whole child and firmly believes that outstanding academic success and a deep sense of personal happiness and fulfilment is only possible through the development of strong character. Gary believes that personal resilience and fortitude is entirely dependent on our ability to interact with others and that generosity and kindness are the key foundations for all that we might do in our lives.
