Schools of Character Kitemark Revamp
ACE have revamped the Kitemark for members so it can go further in assisting schools and colleges in enabling their pupils to flourish through character education. Changes have also been made so it can support schools to deliver on Ofsted’s 2019 requirements. It is an exciting time for character education with Ofsted recognising that schools have a responsibility for

“developing pupils’ character, which we define as a set of positive personal traits, dispositions and virtues that informs their motivation and guides their conduct so that they reflect wisely, learn eagerly, behave with integrity and cooperate consistently well with others. This gives pupils the qualities they need to flourish in our society.”

The DfE are putting together an advisory group where one of their main tasks will be to develop some school self-evaluation character education benchmarks – which we hope will be based on the Kitemark. On top of this is the news that Ofsted are now also taking Character seriously – the policy environment has never looked better.
