The Thomas Aveling School

Reflections on the Quality Mark Experience

“Our vision at The Thomas Aveling School is to enable students to flourish in all areas of their lives, by supporting their development into well-rounded, empathetic people who can contribute and shape society and the wider world, whilst respecting and supporting those who live in it, though the teaching and modelling of good character.

Character Education at Thomas Aveling is all-encompassing and is uniquely threaded through all areas of the curriculum and the personal development opportunities that students receive. We take Character Education seriously, as we believe it is fundamental to the development of our students

The Quality Mark process has enabled us at The Thomas Aveling School to review our practice and allow us to make clear actions plans when developing character education in the initial stages. The supportive approach of assessors with the excellent feedback they provide has allowed us to continue our next steps of continuing to develop character education at Thomas Aveling.”

Assessor Feedback

“All members of the school’s community have a clear understanding of the values being promoted and the impact it is having on their daily lives. Both students and teachers were able to provide reflective and mature responses to some very demanding questions and their ability to reflect and consider the impact of character on their daily lives and future life chances was impressive. There is a real sense of pride in the school’s culture and this culture is reflected in the behaviour and attitudes observed by assessors during their visit.”
